How to Clean Your Tiles

A common situation: You’ve just renovated your home and it’s looking absolutely stunning. But what about those floor tiles, how could they be improved? If you’ve upgraded your home and your furniture is in a different room, then now might be time to give those kitchen or bathroom tiles the much-needed rejuvenation they deserve. If you’ve not done this before, Beams is here to guide you through the process of cleaning your tiles, whether it’s after a home renovation or just a spring clean.

Contents:

  1. Gather the necessary tools and materials

  2. Dust and sweep away dirt and debris

  3. Give your tiles a good scrub

  4. Rinse and repeat

  5. Dry the tiles

1. Gather the necessary tools and materials

Before you start, make sure you have all the necessary tools and materials. You will need:

  • Mop

  • Broom + dustpan

  • Bucket

  • Scrubbing brush

  • Hoover (optional)

  • Cleaning solution (you can use store-bought cleaning solutions, or you can make your own by mixing water and white vinegar)

2. Dust and sweep away dirt and debris

You may want to remove furniture or objects that are taking up space on your tiles before you begin. The benefit of cleaning after a renovation is that there most likely won’t be any furniture there in the first place.

We’d recommend that you first use a broom and dustpan to sweep up any large debris and then a hoover to remove any smaller dirt and dust that may have accumulated on the tiles during the home renovation process. Be thorough and make sure to get in all the nooks and crannies. If you have a pet, keep them out of the kitchen for the entire process.

3. Give your tiles a good scrub

Once the tiles are free from any debris, give them a good scrub. Start by mixing your cleaning solution in a bucket of warm water. Dip your mop or scrub brush in the solution and start scrubbing the tiles back and forth. Be sure to cover all areas, especially hard-to-reach spots.

4. Rinse and repeat

After you’ve scrubbed the tiles, rinse them with a mop or a clean cloth. Rinse thoroughly to remove any excess dirt or cleaning solution. If necessary, repeat the scrubbing and rinsing process until the tiles are clean and shiny.

5. Dry the tiles

Once the tiles are clean, make sure to use a dry cloth or mop to dry them. This will prevent water spots from forming on the tiles.

And there you have it, a step-by-step guide to clean your tiles after a renovation.

We recommend doing this once a month as a deep clean practice, although sweeping and mopping the floor each week helps keep on top of any dirt build up. Remember to take your time, be thorough, and use the right tools and materials. With a little effort, your newly renovated space will be ready to enjoy in no time.
